We first heard about “the Duchess” through a Spotswood local, and twelve months later the wait and mini adventure across the Westgate was worth it.
Temporarily distracted by the art for sale on the walls and the elegant, feminine decor – we commenced the tough decision of what to experience for our first Duchess of Spotswood breakfast. We must preface by saying that the menu is particularly British, expect Pork jowls, black pudding, as well as pork, chill and fennel sausages – anything that will surprise and activate the heart a little.
Feeling like more of a lighter breakfast, we decided to go for one of the most popular dishes (upon our waitresses recommendation); the Prince of Wales – house smoked salmon with fennel yoghurt, poached eggs, potato, and brioche, $19.50 (pictured.) It was so beautifully presented and arranged that we felt obliged to eat it with the same delicate respect. It was a simple but flavoursome dish that we not only recommend but would return for. However, given the extent of flavours and meals on offer we are compelled to be a bit more daring next time (maybe the Pork jowls), and delight in our meal out the back in their gorgeous courtyard.
