FEATURED IN OUR MELBOURNE FOR CONSCIOUS FOODIES GUIDE
Perhaps I’m biased, but Batch Espresso is a cut above the rest – a consistent over performer that sticks to great food, great coffee, great service and nothing more.
Their menu is updated seasonally, which can be sad if you’ve grown attached to one dish in particular. There are however, some items that will always be there, their signature Corn Fritters, fruit salad, granola and yoghurt, the smashed avocado and feta, and one of my all time favourites, the baked eggs (pictured below). 80-85% of Batch Espresso’s produce and ingredients are locally sourced, including Green Eggs, St David’s Dairy and organic Lievito Sourdough which they also sell at the counter from time-to-time. They also support some of Carlisle Street’s green grocers and butchers and local businesses where possible.
They also offer seasonal variations of their incredible buttermilk smoothie. What you will find without fail despite the calendar month however, is the coffee. Being a Kiwi run cafe, it is no surprise they use the super, Supreme, which always makes for a strong, flavoursome coffee. And for the soy drinkers, Batch are BonSoy users – their soy coffees are always really creamy and perfect. Batch’s takeaway coffee cups are recyclable but if you bring your own coffee cup for takeaway, they will offer you a discount.
If you’re doing a morning coffee run or you’re just having a drink and a snack, their cafe’ counter is always stocked with baked goodies like muffins, slices and sweet treats, as well as sandwiches. They make and bake almost everything they sell in-store.
If you like the coffee as much as I do, you will find their beans for sale at the counter.
