Planning a special event really starts with finding the right venue. Like our Private and Group Dining Melbourne mini-guide, our Function and Event Spaces Melbourne mini-guide should helpfully give you a starting point when looking for a great spot for a birthday, work party, special event and even weddings.
I have included a variety of areas, styles and space sizes to cater for small to larger functions. There are many restaurants, or pubs that have function rooms but strangely they don’t really advertise the fact. Trunk – private functions in an amazing venue. They have an outdoor garden too!
Alto – a gorgeous and elegant space with lovely city views.
Transit Rooftop Bar (above Taxi) – rooftop area, 50 – 250 guests catered for and group bookings are also available.
Two Ton Max – an incredible warehouse venue in North Melbourne that seats up to 200 people.
Polly Woodside – the old classic on Southbank.
Cecconi’s – also featured in our Private and Group Dining guide, Cecconi’s can be booked out for bigger events, meetings or functions.
The Gallery & The Church of Bang Bang Boogaloo – both adjoining spaces to the former space that was the Thousand Pound Bend cafe in the heart of the CBD.

SOUTHSIDE
Neptune Food & Wine – this stunning Windsor based food and wine venue boasts two function spaces, The Conservatory (ideal for up to 36 people) and The Impala (32 seated and 60 standing).
Quat Quatta – A hidden gem just off the main drag in Ripponlea. This stunning Victorian mansion is now a boutique venue extensively renovated by leading Interior Designers, Hecker Guthrie.
Fitzrovia – cater for up to 60 people for a sit down event and up to 180 people for a canapé function in this stunning converted Federation mansion space. They cover corporate parties, weddings, birthdays, engagements parties, picnics in the park and bbq’s too.
Circa – weddings, corporate events and private functions at The Deck – such a fantastic venue! Their Balcony and Bar Room are also available for hire.
The Village Belle – anyone who’s been to any party of mine would have definitely been to this great venue. They now offer a host of three interesting and varied event spaces following their recent redevelopment.
Republica – a popular and stunning beach view venue.
Ilona Staller – intimate cocktail parties, corporate events, weddings and sit down dinners all catered for in this gorgeous Balaclava restaurant.
The Flying Duck – organise an event at their Deck, Atrium or Beer Garden.
Art Series Hotels spaces – lots of options for a unique event or function.
George Lane Bar – a great, hidden space in St Kilda.
Half Moon – The Central Room at Half Moon is a fantastic space for a stand up event.
Pizza e Birra – a unique space where good food is a sure thing.
Back Bar – a stylish Windsor venue with two spaces on offer.
The Emerson – an award-winning venue with amazing food.
The Smith – also featured in our Private and Group Dining Guide, The Smith can assist at your special event catering for up to 140 people.
The Kettle Black – famed for its hot cakes with edible floral adornment, Melbourne’s new’ish cafe hot spot can also host functions and events.
The Railway Windsor – set in a convenient location and armed with two fully equipped function rooms (including a deck), The Railway could be a great option for your next function. They cater from 12 to 100 people.
The George Ballroom – newly reopened, this is a truly breathtaking venue for weddings or a special event. One word, opulent! The space can accommodate 150 people sit down or 200 for a cocktail event operated by Damm Fine Food. Kosher functions catered for.
The Stables of Como – surrounded by the historic Como House and Gardens, the Stables have three wonderful venues on offer for your private function including picnics!

NORTHSIDE
Estelle by Scott Pickett – the recently renovated private dining room can cater to groups of up to 52 and is perfect for corporate events, birthdays and product launches.
Fitzroy Town Hall – events, cocktail parties and weddings at this stunning and decently sized iconic Melbourne venue. Capacity is up to 300 people.
Hellenic Museum – four areas available to hire for your next event at the Hellenic Museum, and former Royal Mint.
Rumi – also featured in our Private and Group Dining Guide, these guys can cater for a group of up to 80 guests.
Church St Enoteca – a popular wedding venue for up to 150 people.
Saint Crispin – another feature in our Private and Group Dining Guide, Saint Crispin can hold business functions, birthdays, engagement parties and weddings for up to 60 guests.
Cutler and Co. – can accommodate 96 guests for a seated lunch or dinner event.
Grub Food Van – a fun, alternative space for your next par-tay.
Abbotsford Convent – an amazing selection of spaces for your next soiree, particularly at the Rosina Function Room.
Farm Vigano – two function rooms available on this unique 16 acre property. Accommodates from 60 guests, up to 200 depending on the type of function.
Epocha – seated and cocktail functions for up to 110 guests.
Lauren’s Hall – a stunning, light-filled venue in North Melbourne.
The Paddock at Collingwood Children’s Farm – a generous and natural space perfect for larger events.
EASTSIDE
Cafe Vue at Heide – one of Melbourne’s most special spots also caters for functions and events, including weddings. Two spaces are on offer, The Cafe, and The Sidney Myer Education Centre for cocktails or corporate style events.
GG – a stunning space with fantastic food and well located opposite the Fitzroy Gardens, GG’s offer several spaces for functions and events. Their Clarendon Room caters for 100 seated and up to 180 standing.
Wattle Park Chalet – indoor and outdoor receptions, including private garden functions and weddings.
The Boulevard – located in Kew’s bushlands, this venue seats 180 guests and up to 400 for stand up receptions. They also have a location in beautiful Montsalvat.
WESTSIDE
Gather & Tailor – a beautiful warehouse and studio space for hire.
Acqua e Vino – an intimate space for smaller functions and events (up to 30 people).
Newport Sub Station – functions and weddings in a very unique space.
Werribee Mansion – conferences and weddings at Werribee Mansion and Park.

OUT OF TOWN
Montsalvat – a stunning, unique fairytale-like location for weddings or private events.
Junction Moama – a sophisticated, modern food and wine destination at Victoria and NSW’s ‘border’ town, Junction offers five impressive areas/options for functions. They can cater for groups of 40 and up to 3oo.
Campbell Point House – a stunning venue on the Bellarine Peninsula.
Mountain Goat Brewery – if you would like to organise a function on a Saturday sometime after June 2015, then this is a lovely option.
Butterland – a very unique space at the old Newstead Butter Factory and rented out for shoots and weddings.
Tamsin’s Table – intimate gatherings of 8-10 at this amazing space, perfect for foodies with a love of nature.
Red Hill Epicurean – take your pick: the Shed, the private dining room or the Barrel Room.
Coombe Yarra Valley – weddings, private functions and more, this is a spectacular heritage space on a seven acre gardenproperty.
Brown Brothers Milawa Winery and Vineyard – a stunning rustic venue and setting for your wedding, hens or special gathering.
The Barn at The Estate Trentham – a truly unique location for an intimate wedding or gathering for up to 40 people seated or 60 standing.
Piggery Cafe at Burnham Beeches – another venue by the Vue team, the Piggery Cafe in the Dandenong Ranges makes for a stunning intimate gathering space. Email sales@vueevents.com.au.
